Abstract
This paper explores the importance of implementing dance/movement therapy within a transitional domestic violence shelter. Particularly, this paper focuses on Sarah Burke House, a transitional domestic violence shelter situated in the South Bronx. Initially, this paper will utilize a historical lens through which to view Sarah Burke House, its residents, and eventually a larger view of the shelter model. This paper will then shift into a layered understanding of the complexly interwoven aspects of domestic violence, and dance/movement therapy. With a discussion of the role that dance/movement therapy can play in reintegrating the mind and body, post trauma, this paper aims to address the unmet therapeutic needs of a domestic violence survivor.
