Abstract

Beginning with the historical context of chattel slavery, this thesis discusses the formation of the strong black woman trope and the health concerns that accompany it, namely depression. In addition, this thesis suggests potential dance/movement therapy interventions to aid in symptom relief of those who self-identify as strong black women.
